BMW Vehicle Service Warning Indicators
Your car's dashboard features warning indicator lights. We want to help you read these lights. Paying attention to them can help you avoid breakdowns and other serious problems. Let's cover ten common indicator lights.
Airbag Fault
This light monitors your secondary-restraint system, and it indicates a malfunction in your airbags or seat belts. We all want these devices to work correctly if a crash occurs, so bring your car for service soon.
Low Fuel Level Warning Light
As your fuel tank approaches emptiness, you'll see this light. Do not chance running out of gas. Find a gas station immediately.
Oil Pressure Warning Light
When you see this light, you need to stop to check your oil level safely. Add oil if the level is low. If it is normal, seek immediate service to address your low oil pressure. Driving with low oil pressure is hazardous.
Service Vehicle Soon
As you reach your car's recommended distance between oil changes, this light will appear. Schedule a maintenance appointment to change your oil and filter and to rotate your tires. Your technician will also reset this light.
TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System)
For your safety, this warning light requires immediate action. It tells you that your tire pressure is low. Check your tires and fill them to your car's recommended air pressure. If the light stays lit after you've added air, your TPMS sensors may require replacement.
Slip Indicator
This light tells you that your car's traction control or electronic stability control has activated. Typically, this will occur in slippery conditions. If the light remains, you may have a malfunction in these traction systems. Seek service.
Charging System Warning Light
You'll see this light when you have a problem with your battery's charging circuit. Safely stop your vehicle as soon as possible. Your fan belt may have snapped. Contact service professionals.
Brake System
When this light shines, you have a problem with your anti-lock braking system's components. While you will not immediately lose braking ability, you should seek service soon. Responsive braking capability is critical.
Open Door Warning Light
This light simply shows you that you have an open door. With your car stopped, safely check your trunk and doors.
Coolant Level Warning
If this light appears, immediately find a safe place to stop. You need to check your car's coolant level. Do not drive with low coolant. It will quickly cause your engine to overheat, which can lead to expensive damage.
