What's New for the 2019 BMW i8?

The future looks bright for the i8 performance sport hybrid. Since the last year of its production in 2017, BMW has carefully planned new engine, interior, exterior, and safety improvements for 2019. Two new "World" appearance packages take aim at refining several key areas. The Tera World package upgrades the interior with upholstery and seats made of Dalbergia Brown leather, an anthracite headliner, and ceramic control surfaces. This also improves the exterior with premium black brake calipers and a beautiful leather engine cover. The Terra World Copper package is virtually the same as the Terra World package, but the interior leather is colored with BMW's E-Copper pigment.

What are the Available Trims & Features Options?

Each i8 is loaded with advanced standard features that enhance safety, performance, and your overall driving experience. Enjoy a full soundtrack to your journey with a premium audio system highlighted by a 8.8-inch touchscreen display that exceeds the dimensions of most others found in vehicles today. It will proudly display Apple Carplay entertainment, an advanced navigation system, Bluetooth information, and so much more. Leading technologies such as frontal collision and lane departure warnings, automatic emergency braking, and park assist highlight a pack of standard safety equipment. You and your passengers will enjoy the look and feel of the leather interior while you cruise on premium 20-inch wheels. All these features are standard in the two available trims, the Coupe and Roadster. The Coupe maintains a hard top while the Roadster's retractable cloth roof allows you the option for a little more wind and sun.

What Are the Performance Capabilities?

2019 BMW i8The power of the i8 matches its exotic and sporty looks. The combination of its electric and combustion motors now yields 369 hp for 2019. When you need a quick start, it will go from 0 to 60 mph in an impressive 4.2 seconds. More importantly, BMW has designed the i8 with several options so you can operate the engine in different power and efficiency modes. When you select Max e-Mode, the 141 hp electric motor takes over your journey, providing a quiet and very efficient trip. As a matter of fact, this motor is powerful enough to take you to 135 mph - in legal and safe conditions, of course. The i8 default is Comfort mode, which operates both motors as a normal hybrid. Sport mode uses the best combination of power from both motors when you demand performance.

How Will the i8 Keep Me Safe?

2019 BMW i8The structure of the i8 is derived from carbon fiber that is placed atop an aluminum chassis, creating a tough structure that firmly supports its exotic design. BMW engineers placed the battery in the center of the vehicle. Ultimately, it would be a challenge to damage the battery in the unfortunate event of an accident. Other standard equipment includes six airbags and a technical safety package highlighted in the Trims & Features section. If you really want to be seen on the road at night, BMW offers a laser light package that makes your i8 exuberant.
