What's New for the 2018 BMW 7 Series?

The BMW flagship sedan, the 7 Series, boasts of the German automaker's most potent engine, most advanced construction and latest technology. It is a plush full-sized ride with plenty numerous customizable features and powertrain options. BMW advertises the 2018 7 Series as the "future of luxury" because it reaches new altitudes in comfort and technology. The 2018 7 Series comes after an extensively refurbished 2017 model and, therefore, did not require any significant changes. Nonetheless, BMW still includes minor changes such as a new plug-in hybrid model named the 740e xDrive iPerformance. Also new is a high-performance V12 model dubbed the M760i xDrive. Additionally, the Active Driving Assistant is now a standalone option on the 740 models.

The 2018 7 Series is made available in four trim levels, the base 740i, the 750i, the new 740e plug-in hybrid and the newly-debuted top-of-the-range M760i xDrive. The 7 Series offers more features than any vehicle in its class. Highlights on the 740i include 19-inch alloy wheels, automatic windshield wipers, adaptive air suspension, a power trunk lid, adaptive LED headlights, power-closing doors, automatic high beams and front and rear parking sensors. The model also offers additional luxuries including four-zone climate control, 14-way power-adjustable leather seats, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, wood trim and a panoramic moonroof. Audiophiles will love the plethora of standard tech equipment consisting of a 10.2-inch infotainment screen with a touchpad controller, BMW iDrive, navigation, gesture control capability, a wireless Qi charging station, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, a collection of BMW apps and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system. The 740e iPerformance model carries standard equipment similar to the 740i's but adds unique interior accents. Apart from a bigger engine, upgrading to the 750i earns you several extra standard luxuries such as 20-way power-adjustable seats. The performance-oriented M760i xDrive, meanwhile, gets access to sports-oriented features, additional luxuries, and unique colors and design elements.

BMW 7 Series FrontAll of the 7 Series four engines mate with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel-drive is standard on the 740i and 750i trims while all-wheel-drive (xDrive) is standard on the 740e and the M760i models. AWD is an option for the first two trims. A turbocharged 3.0-liter inline I-6 mill with 320-hp and 330 lb-ft of torque drives the base 740i. The 750i receives 445 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque from a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine. The 740e plug-in hybrid combines an electric motor and a turbocharged 255-hp, 295 lb-ft 2.0-liter I-4 engine to produce a total of 322 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. The hybrid returns 14 miles on all-electric mode. Stepping up to the flagship M760i rewards you with a 6.6-liter turbocharged V12 engine that pushes out 601 galloping ponies and 590 lb-ft of torque.

2018 BMW 7 Series SideThe 2018 BMW 7 Series features a system that disconnects the fuel pump, the alternator, and the starter from the battery and automatically turns on hazard lights and opens all doors following an accident. An Active Protection system closes the windows and moonroof, pretensions the seat belts, and activates post-crash braking if it detects an imminent crash. An available Driving Assistance Package includes automatic forward braking, active cruise control, frontal collision warning, lane departure warning, Pedestrian Protection, and city collision mitigation. Drivers can also upgrade with active lane keeping assist and a Traffic Jam Assistant feature.
