BMW's entrance into the electric vehicle and hybrid markets has been a successful one, with the launch of two lavish, fuel-efficient models: the BMW i3 and i8. Since their arrival in 2014, each car has been praised for its performance and fuel economy, but even though they're hot commodities, BMW has confirmed we won't see a third model added to the i roster until 2020.

News about BMW's plan to wait until 2020 to debut an all-new i model was confirmed by the company's development boss, Klaus Fröhlich. He spoke with Automotive News Europe about the sub-brand's future, which will include products not based off of standard BMW products. No information has yet been provided about the new model expected to arrive in 2020; however, details were revealed about upcoming i3 and i8 models. Each model is slated to receive at least 20 battery improvement every three years, along with extended range and greater performance. With that being said, we can look forward to receiving updated i3 and i8 models in the near future.
