What's New for the BMW M-Series?

The BMW M Series returns racetrack-ready for 2019 with the addition of a convertible coupe to its sedan and SUV lineup. This year BMW is offering buyers a full free year subscription to Apple CarPlay with their purchase of an M Series vehicle. The M Series also adds gesture controls for raising or lowering volume, sending emails or other tasks. Drivers can park their M Series using a smartphone when they are not even in their vehicle.

Another smartphone feature that's new for 2019 is the BMW Connected app, which is offered as standard on all vehicles. It's particularly useful for its vehicle locating option, ability to lock doors at a distance and tabulating statistics for things like gas used or miles driven over long time periods, information that ordinarily would not be available to the driver from the car itself.

What are my Trim & Feature Options?

No less than eight trim models return or have an introduction for 2019. Parking sensors come standard on all trims. Option packages for trims like the M2 include an Executive Package with a Wi-Fi hotspot, a wireless pad for recharging devices, automatic high beams and luxurious upgrades like a heated steering wheel. Add other options like a sunroof, fog lamps or improve the upper range of the M2's acceleration to 175 mph with additional add-ons. The base sedan trim weighs in at 3,630 pounds and can carry up to five passengers comfortably while carrying 13 cubic feet of cargo. Fuel efficiency for most trims measures at 17 mpg for city driving and 26 mpg on the highway, for a combined rating of 20 mpg.

Upgrades to trims like the M4 CS deliver an even more impressive 454 horsepower. The transmission is a 7-Speed dual-clutch and rear-wheel drive. Acceleration speeds from a standstill to 60 mph clock in at around four seconds for all models. Base models top out at 155 mph, although upgrades to certain trims can increase that highway speed to 175 mph.

How Will it Vehicle Keep me Safe?

2019 BMW M SeriesAll M Series trims come with the standard complement of safety features such as anti-lock brakes and airbags. Radar-assisted lane-keeping sensors alert the driver to unexpected deviations from the center of the lane while driving above a certain speed. The M Series can also assist the driver in evasive actions by controlling the steering wheel or brakes when it senses an impact is imminent. The 2019 M Series has a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration rating of five stars for side impact protection, the highest an automobile can receive.
