The BMW M5 and M6 will no longer be available with a manual transmission in the near future. The German luxury brand has come forward to confirm the news, which may come as a surprise for some longtime Bimmer fans.

BMW’s M Division CEO Frank van Meel made the announcement regarding the manual-equipped M5 and M6 models in a recent interview with Car and Driver. According the Meel, the automatic models have been selling more than the manual models in recent years, which is why the brand has decided to stop producing manual M5 and M6 variants. The cost to develop the U.S.-only six-speed manual offered on the current M5 also played heavily into BMW’s decision.

If you want to purchase an M5 with a manual transmission, there’s still time. The brand is not expected to cease production of the manual M5 until this fall, with the manual M6 following soon after. Additionally, future M2, M3 and M4 models will still be offered with a manual, so you don’t have to worry about the transmission disappearing completely from the lineup.
