How Often Should I Service My BMW X3?

Regardless of whether your BMW X3 is two years old or 10, you'll need to make sure that it has proper maintenance throughout its lifetime to remain in top shape. Bringing your car in for service as scheduled is also an excellent way to check for problems and get them fixed before they become significant issues. While you can follow general manufacturer and industry guidelines for vehicle maintenance, the most accurate schedule can be found in the owner's manual that comes with the car.

15,000-Mile Service

Mileage-based services for the X3 start at 15,000 miles. At this service point, your car will likely have the oil changed, and the tires rotated. Both services are typically performed every 5,000 - 6,000 miles. Additionally, your X3 will have a more comprehensive inspection to ensure all of its other parts are working correctly and are free of problems. A brake inspection is included at 15,000 miles, along with an assessment of the engine coolant fluid. The wiper blades will be checked and possibly replaced as well. The battery in your key fob may be replaced if it's running low.

30,000-Mile Service

Another round of services are performed at 30,000 miles. The brakes will receive a checkup again at this mileage point. The brake fluid may be replaced if it is dirty. Your X3 may also have both of its air filters changed. One is located in the engine, and the other is in the cabin. Even though the car's battery may not need replacement at this point, the battery connections will be inspected, as will the fuel lines.

60,000-Mile Service

More services are performed on your BMW X3 at 60,000 miles. The transmission fluid may be flushed at this mileage. The spark plugs, which last anywhere from 60,000 to 100,000 on some cars, will be evaluated and replaced if necessary. The car's tires will also be inspected to look for signs of excess and uneven wear. Your BMW's battery may be checked at this point, too, if it hasn't been replaced yet.

90,000-Mile Service

The 90,000-mile service mark is another major mileage-based checkpoint. Your X3 will have its transmission fluid flushed and replaced. A BMW mechanic will lubricate the car's driveshaft and perform a visual inspection of the fuel injector, driveshaft boots, the water pump, hoses, and belts.
