BMW Celebrates Seven Million BMWs Assembled in the United States

World-renowned automaker BMW has just marked a significant achievement: manufacturing seven million vehicles in the United States. As a German marque, BMW operates assembly plants around the globe, including several here in the US. Having launched American production in 1994, the company celebrated its seven-millionth vehicle in March 2025 when it rolled off the line at the Spartanburg, South Carolina, manufacturing facility.

About the 7th Million BMW

The vehicle that commemorated this milestone is the XB7, a high-performance luxury SUV. To honor its achievement, BMW equipped the XB7 with exclusive upgrades such as a bespoke body kit, custom floor mats, a commemorative badge, and special wheels. The cabin boasts Merino leather seats accented by premium walnut black trim. Standout details include a leather steering wheel finished in a vibrant blue hue with green stitching accents. This luxury SUV also features captain's chairs in the second row and a panoramic sunroof. Though the XB7 is undoubtedly coveted, it isn't available for purchase—BMW has reserved it for its historical collection. Fortunately, with millions of other BMWs already produced domestically and worldwide, shoppers still have an extensive selection of models to choose from.

Spartanburg, SC Production

BMW's Spartanburg plant was the company's first manufacturing site in South Carolina, and plans are already underway for a second facility to expand its operations. Since opening Spartanburg in 1992, BMW has invested nearly $15 billion in the state. A new plant in Woodruff, South Carolina, is set to join Spartanburg, further bolstering BMW's footprint. The automaker is now committing almost an additional $1 billion to modernize the Spartanburg plant for increased electric-vehicle output. By 2030, BMW aims to build at least six distinct electric models there, supported by a dedicated battery factory in Woodruff.

BMW Manufacturing History

BMW began US production in 1994, reaching its first major milestone of one million vehicles in 2006 with the zippy Z4 M Roadster. Since then, a steady stream of acclaimed BMW models has driven the company through each successive production landmark.
