Data from the U.S. Department of Commerce in February confirmed that BMW Manufacturing led U.S. automotive exports by value in 2024. The Spartanburg plant in Spartanburg, NC, shipped nearly 225,000 BMW Sports Activity Vehicles and Coupes with a total export value exceeding $10 billion. Since 2014, this plant has exported over 2.7 million BMWs, which accounts for roughly 63 percent of its overall production. The combined export value of these vehicles is more than $104 billion.
Since its opening in 1994, Plant Spartanburg has been vital to the BMW production network and is now the largest BMW Group facility worldwide. In 2024, BMW inaugurated its first North American press shop at this location, and the plant expanded its X3/X4 assembly hall in preparation for building fully electric vehicles. It is set to deliver its first electric models in 2026. By 2030, the BMW Group plans to manufacture at least six entirely electric models in the United States.
Since 1992, the BMW Group has invested over $14.8 billion in its South Carolina operations. Each day, more than 1,500 BMW vehicles are produced in the state, with nearly 57 percent of them destined for roughly 120 global markets. This achievement has maintained BMW's status as the top automotive exporter by value in the U.S. for over ten years. Almost half of the BMW vehicles sold in the U.S. in 2024 originated from Plant Spartanburg, which employs over 11,000 workers.
