The BMW i8 has been around for a few years now, which means it’s time for a little sprucing and BMW is ready to do just that. According to various sources, a facelifted i8 is expected to hit the market for the 2018 model year, offering more power and greater performance.
When the revised i8 lands at BMW of Springfield in late 2017, Autocar claims it will come with an updated version of the current 1.5L three-cylinder gas engine and its electric motor will offer 10 percent more power, which will result in a combined output of 420 horsepower. The car is also expected to replace its 7.1 kWh battery pack with the 10 kWh battery that is being used in the Formula E safety car.
Additionally, the sports car is likely to receive a wireless charging system, revised suspension and tweaks to its six-speed automatic transmission that will make the car even faster. The inclusion of 25 percent lighter carbon fiber wheels will also benefit the i8’s performance and increase its appeal among new car buyers.
