The BMW i8 and i3 have already been making waves in the industry for quite some time now and soon they’ll welcome an all-new i model into their lineup that will shake up the market: the i5. Currently under development, the incoming i model is said to arrive as an electric vehicle and will be configured to appeal to car buyers with families.

In a recent interview with Car and Driver, i product boss Henrik Wenders revealed a few details about the new i5. He said the car would offer ample cargo space for families to utilize, feature a long driving range and come available with a range extender just like the current BMW i3. Wenders also seemed to dispel rumors claiming the i5 would use the same platform as the long-wheelbase 5 Series, stating he believes BMW will continue to utilize new technologies and materials when developing new models.

"One of i's roles is as an enabling brand, to help industrialize new materials and processes,” said Wenders. “We have already opened the door with the i3, and we will take it from there."

At this time, there is no further news about the upcoming BMW i5 model, but we hope to receive updates in the future. Keep an eye out on our blog for more information and current BMW news.
