The pickup truck segment is beginning to pick up steam with luxury automakers, and more and more brands are considering the benefits of adding a truck to their lineup. Within the past couple of years, some of the industry’s leading manufacturers have decided to develop their very first pickup truck to be released on the market in the next few years, and now it seems BMW could be one of the next brands to jump on board.

In a recent interview with Motoring, BMW’s Australian Marketing Manager, Marc Werner, revealed that the German automaker has been watching the pickup space “closely.” According to Werner, BMW is waiting to see how the upcoming Mercedes-Benz pickup truck performs before they decide if they want to enter the segment for themselves. BMW’s Pacific, South Africa and Asia boss Hendrick von Kuenheim has denounced rumors in the past suggesting BMW would enter the truck market, but Werner’s recent comments give us hope that it could happen.

If the project receives the green light, there’s no telling when a BMW pickup would make it onto the market. While you wait to find out what BMW’s future plans are, you can stop by BMW of Springfield and take a look at the current lineup of BMW models available now.
