Rumor has it that BMW is currently prepping the launch of a brand-new i8 model that could debut on the market as early as 2016. Complete with significant updates, the incoming model is said to offer a new-and-improved engine and have the ability to output an incredible 300 horsepower, taking its performance offerings to an entirely new level.
Since its initial release, the BMW i8 has been highly praised by critics and BMW fans across the world. It’s considered a 21st Century supercar, and because of this label, many car enthusiasts have long-hoped for a high-performance version of the speedy hybrid. According to AutoExpress, this dream may finally become a reality if recent rumors circulating about an upcoming, new i8 model prove to be true. A few sources recently came forward and spoke to the publication, claiming a 300-horsepower i8 model backed by a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine is on its way. This would make the new i8 much more powerful than the current model, which offers a three-cylinder engine and outputs 228 horsepower. The new model is also expected to carry over the same weight as the outgoing model, even with the addition of the 2.0L engine, which BMW plans to achieve by getting rid of unnecessary interior components.
For now, we are waiting for a confirmation from BMW on the i8's future, which we hope will arrive soon. To find out info about the current i8 model, check out our virtual showroom at Reliable BMW for details.
