Recent rumors have begun to arise claiming BMW is interested in making a 2 Series Gran Coupe. German magazine Auto Motor Und Sport is the latest publication to release reports about the four-door, rear-wheel-drive Coupe and its future on the market.

BMW's research and development chief, Klaus Fröhlich, is reportedly the main person pushing for the automaker to develop a rear-wheel-drive four-door coupe that will join the 2 Series lineup. With the upcoming 1 Series likely to offer four-wheel drive, a 2 Series Gran Coupe would be a nice addition to BMW's roster. Unlike the 1 Series, the Gran Coupe would be small in size, feature a low center of gravity and a wider stance. It would also share a platform with the 3 Series, 5 Series and 7 Series, and compete directly with the Mercedes CLA.

If a BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe model was to come into fruition, it's likely the model would not arrive on the market until 2018. As of today, BMW has not released an official statement about a possible 2 Series Gran Coupe; however, there is a chance an announcement could be made soon.
