Move over Mercedes, because there's a new head honcho in town. BMW has officially knocked Mercedes off its thrown and has been crowned the U.S. luxury sales leader for 2014. The company sold a total of 339,738 units, beating Mercedes by a margin of 9,347 cars. With its premier selection of high-end, pristine models, it's not hard to see why BMW is the current champ in the luxury segment.
BMW's recent win can be attributed to its top-notch sedans, coupes and SUVs. The 3 Series, 4 Series and X5 models made up the majority of the German brand's sales in 2014, leading to its overall win. Mercedes wasn't able to catch up to BMW by the end of the year and finished 2014 selling a total of 330,391 units. The company's 5.7-percent increase in sales compared to 2013 was no match for BMW's 9.8-percent increase, resulting in their downfall for 2014.
Lexus come in third overall this year, reporting 311,389 cars sold. Audi sat behind the company with 182,011 units sold and Cadillac rounded out the top five with 170,750 models sold.
