It has been a solid three years since the BMW i8 Spyder concept was unveiled to the public, and just recently, BMW finally announced plans to put the car into production. The coupe variant has been at dealerships across America for two years now and we're excited to see the arrival of its counterpart, the i8 Spyder convertible, at BMW of Springfield in the near future.
BMW's chief executive, Harald Krueger, made the announcement about the upcoming i8 Spyder to Handelsblatt, a German publication. He didn't share any detailed information about the model, but if it's anything like the concept that premiered three years, ago it could debut with removable roof panels, exposing the car’s interior. However, due to BMW's automatic roof preference, it's also very likely the convertible could sport either an automatic hardtop or soft top. Aside from this modifications, there's the possibility BMW could outfit the car with a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder engine that will churn out a total of 450 horsepower, improving the convertible's performance offerings.
As of now, there's no guarantee as to what the i8 Spyder will come equipped with once it debuts and there’s also no details as to when it will debut. Subscribe to our blog to receive updates about the new model and its eventual arrival at BMW of Springfield.
