Recent reports circulating around automotive industry suggest that BMW could be creating a hydrogen fuel-cell electric car that is likely to hit the market by 2020. With the launch of the i sub-brand, which is currently made up of the BMW i3 electric car and i8 plug-in hybrid, it's very likely BMW could be adding a fuel-cell car to the mix that would take the German brand to the next level.

It's no secret that BMW has been working on fuel cell development over the past few years, but according to the company's spokesman Dan Buchko, the company is not willing to provide information on future vehicle plans at the moment. However, in recent months there have been rumors about a possible i5 model joining the lineup that would be powered by Toyota's unique fuel-cell system currently used on the Mirai. Both brands joined forces back in 2013 to conduct research on the development fuel-cell vehicles, but BMW has stayed tight-lipped about their findings, leaving many to ponder what the high-end company has planned for the future.

For now, BMW enthusiasts will just have to wait to discover if the brand is truly considering to produce a fuel-cell car. In the meantime, fans can check out i sub-brand models, such as the BMW i3, which is on sale now at Reliable BMW.
