Sharing the road with big rigs is a part of driving, and whether we like it or not, there's always going to be one somewhere along the highway. By following simple guidelines, drivers can easily avoid putting themselves in a dangerous position when approaching a big rig, but if you're not familiar with the rules of the road, you may not be so lucky. This was the case for a Russian BMW X5 driver who recently chose to cut off a semi on the highway and apply his brakes during the process. As you can imagine, the act resulted in a collision after the semi could not stop in time, as well as two additional hits due to the BMW driver's failed knowledge on big rig stopping distances - a lesson he quickly learned.

In the footage of the incident, the BMW X5 can be seen moving over into the left lane, directly in front of the semi. He then proceeds to immediately brake, which causes the truck to plow into the back of the SUV. Following one hit, the BMW brakes again, leading the semi to hit the car a second time. The driver then brakes one more time, causing the third and final hit before both vehicle come to a complete stop.

Watch the reckless video below to see where the BMW driver went wrong, and remember to always keep a proper distance from any big rigs on the road - you'll be glad you did.
