BMW's high-end hybrid, the i8, has earned extraordinary praise since it landed on the market and now to impress the masses even more, the brand is reportedly working on an all-new performance model of the popular car. Coined the i8s, the high-powered sports car will allegedly have a significant increase in horsepower compared to the standard i8. A series of mechanical enhancements will also cater to its new performance offerings, producing a first-class driving experience.
The i8s is expected to receive new carbon fiber components that will improve its durability and rigidity. A revised suspension and tougher brakes are also likely to appear on the model, along with wider tires. As of now both a 2.0L turbo and 3.0L six-cylinder engine are being tested with the i8s, but there is no guarantee as to which one will be outfitted on the sports car. However, we do know the hybrid power system will deliver over 500 horsepower, surpassing the current i8's output of 357 horsepower. It will also produce 500 lb.-ft. of torque, which will give it the ability to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 3.5 seconds.
As BMW's i team continues to work on the i8s, the standard i8 is the only version currently on the market. If you'd like to see one up close and in person, contact Reliable BMW for further information on the i8 and models in stock.
